Revolutionizing Door Handles: Azam Eskandari's "Less"

Award-Winning Design Marries Sustainability, Safety, and Ergonomics

The inspiration behind "Less" was born out of a desire to use fewer materials in the production of door handles. By creating a single knob, Eskandari aimed to save energy and better exploit resources, thus contributing to the protection of our planet. This design also addresses safety concerns associated with traditional door handles, making it an innovative solution for modern spaces.

"Less" is a dual-sided door handle designed for today's offices, administrative and learning spaces, and children's rooms. Its unique properties include increased sustainability, safety, and ergonomics. Made from die-cast aluminum and fluorescent acrylic, it also offers better visibility at night, preventing potential accidents.

The design process involved solving several challenges, including creating a door handle with no protruding parts, reducing the number of parts and manufacturing costs, and improving durability. The result is a product that not only prevents injuries from collisions but also prevents clothing from getting caught and torn, thereby increasing its service life.

Measuring 180mm in width, 53mm in depth, and 110mm in height, "Less" is a testament to Eskandari's design thinking technique. The project, which started in April 2015 in Tehran and concluded in August 2015, has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Furniture Accessories, Hardware, and Materials Design Award in 2017.

This award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. It honors products and ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics. "Less" certainly fits this description, marking a significant milestone in Eskandari's career and the field of design.
